Many suggested that Clark remained a relevant presence on television throughout his career due to his "relatable personality." CNN reported that Clark was one of the world's greatest entertainers. Following his 2004 stroke, Clark suffered from a speech impediment and never seemed to fully recover to his previous state.

Born in Mount Vernon, New York, Clark began his television career in 1945 at the WRUN mailroom. Clark quickly progressed from being a weatherman to an announcer and in 1956 became the full-time host of American Band Stand, a popular show that revealed teens dancing to Top 40 hit lists. The show was later picked up by ABC and eventually ownership of the show was transferred to Clark himself.

The host also became famous for "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" and the "Pyramid" game show along with a number of other game shows. According to E! News, Dick Clark's publicist confirmed the news shortly after it broke.

"Dick Clark passed away this morning (Wednesday) at the age of 82 following a massive heart attack," the publicist confirmed.

Clark is survived by his wife, Kari, and his three children.
