'Doctor Strange' Spoilers: Marvel Superhero's Sanctum Sanctorum Revealed In New 'Doctor Strange' Concept Art
Less than a week after the first images of Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange were released, fans of the fictional Marvel superhero can now gaze at Strange's secret headquarters, a place called the Sanctum Sanctorum. The sneak peek was provided by Marvel Entertainment, which has just revealed some new concept art for the upcoming "Doctor Strange."
One of the images shows the Chamber of Relics, the museum-like room where Stephen Strange aka Doctor Strange kept his collection of mystic books and artifacts. In the image, the room is all dark, polished wood and glass and muted lights, with windows that look out onto a nighttime urban landscape.
According to Marvel, the Sanctum Sanctorum in "Doctor Strange" will be situated on Bleeker Street in New York City's Greenwich Village, just as it was in the Marvel Comics. It is where Strange holes up after being schooled in the mystic arts by The Ancient One, to be played by Tilda Swinton.

Another image shows Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange in the superhero's meditation room, which has a circular area (that may be a portal of some sort) illuminated by a globular sunroof.
As fans of the "Doctor Strange" story of the Marvel Comics know, the Sanctum Sanctorum, like Doctor Who's TARDIS, is actually much larger than it appears from the outside. It also alters itself to fit the superhero's needs, with hallways re-arranging and rooms appearing or disappearing. Spells protect it from those who would wish to break in, though, as fans also know, some have successfully done just that.
Meanwhile, Cumberbatch has reassured those who were worried that his Doctor Strange may possess purely metaphysical powers that he will certainly get physical for the role.
"There's a huge amount of physicality," the actor revealed to Entertainment Weekly, adding: "[Doctor Strange is] physically a very strong presence in the world. His hands are no longer capable of the fine skill needed for delicate surgery but physically he's still strong. There's a lot of running. There's a lot of craziness: falling, flying, jumping, fighting, punching, getting punched. It's really rough and tumble."
"Doctor Strange" is set to land in IMAX theaters on Nov. 4.
