A Dodgers fan has died and two people have been arrested in relation to the fatal stabbing incident following a fight near San Francisco's AT&T Park of the Giants' 6-4 win over the Dodgers this week.

San Francisco Police Chief Greg Suhr did not provide many details but has confirmed that the person who died was a Dodgers fan and was wearing Dodgers fan gear when he was stabbed. Police have detained two suspects in relation to the killing.

The Medical Examiner's offices has since released the name of the victim, and he has been named as 24 year old Jonathan Denver. Investigators have said that they are still working to confirm exactly where Denver lived, according to The Associated Press.

Police have also not managed to confirm whether the man was attacked because he was a Dodgers fan or whether the attack was related to something else. However, in the aftermath of the killing some have leaned towards believing it was a team rivalry attack - the Giants and Dodgers have a longtime division rivalry. Some reports have claimed that one of the suspects was wearing a Giants' cap.

The Giants of course won the World Series last season, but this year have missed out on the playoffs as the Dodgers have stolen the divisional title.

The stabbing incident took place at about 11.30 p.m. local time, and happened during a confrontation between two groups of males, police have described. The incident did not take place inside the stadium and reportedly took place several blocks away from AT&T Park.

The killing has come just days after a teenage football fan was attacked at San Francisco's Candlestick Park. That incident took place as the San Francisco 49ers played against the Indianapolis Colts.
