Droid Razr Maxx Vs. iPhone 4S: Razr Maxx Wins on Verizon!

The Droid Razr Maxx recently dethroned the iPhone 4S in terms of sales last quarter on Verizon, according to investment banking firm William Blair.

The company reported that Apple's dominance in the U.S. smartphone market seems to be slipping as the Android device quietly bumped its crown jewel of a device out of the top spot on the carrier.

This also is the first time since the iPhone 4's launch on Verizon in 2011 that the device was not the top selling smartphone at the major U.S. carrier.

Apple continued to dominate at AT&T and Sprint during that time and still holds the top position in terms of smartphone sales at those carriers.

The iPhone 4S sales decline on Verizon can be attributed to the fact the Apple is planning to launch a 4G LTE iPhone in the coming months and many of its customers could simply be holding out for it.

Other customers may have skipped the iPhone 4S due to it being a 3G device, while the Motorola Droid Razr Maxx is already 4G LTE.

And with Verizon's claim to have the number one LTE network in the U.S., many subscribers might want to take advantage of it and purchase an LTE Android device, and switch back to Apple once the Cupertino-based company gets with the program.

And even though the Droid Razr has had some success on Big Red, its reign will end quickly, according to bloggers and analysts. Once Apple launches its next-generation device, the company will easily reclaim its throne.

Another major factor in Apple reclaiming the number one spot will be Verizon's decision to carry the Samsung Galaxy S3, which is arguably the most popular Android handset in the world.

The carrier chose to skip out on the Galaxy S2, but this time around changed its mind and picked up the line.

This should make the next quarter's sales much more competitive.
