Egyptian Demand Government Protect Christians During Christmas in Wake of Mansoura Bombing

Several Egyptian parties condemned the bombing this morning in the city of Mansoura that targeted the security directorate of Dakahliya. The bombing left 13 dead and hundreds injured.

The Egyptian Popular Movement called on the Egyptian government to secure the celebrations of Christians in Egypt on Christmas and commit to protecting them in all the governorates of Egypt.

In a statement today, the movement expressed condemnation of the bombing. It called on the current government of Dr. Hazem el-Beblawi to "take a political stance towards the ugly targeting of the Dakahliya security directorate and respond to the public and political demand of considering the Muslim Brotherhood a terrorist organization, as the biggest supporter of terrorist operations taking place in Egypt, and those responsible for operations that have increased and become more bloody after the fall of the Brotherhood on June 30."

The movement also urged the government to take serious steps at the international level to deal with this organization as a terrorist organization and to prosecute its leaders who cooperate with Western and regional countries to carry out schemes of chaos and terrorism in Egypt.

"The terrorist incident which targeted the Dakahliya security directorate occurs days before Christmas celebrations for Christians, which necessitates the protection of these celebrations across the country, and that the state promise to protect them against any attack or harm that may affect them," the movement warned.

"The popular movement realizes the magnitude of the responsibility of the government and the state institutions since June 30, and stresses the need for the government's commitment to achieve the map of the future and end the transitional period without hesitation, as part of combating terrorism and to impose the free will of the Egyptians on everyone," the statement added.

For its part, the Free Egyptians Party denounced the terrorist act also. The party called on the Egyptian government "to take firm actions at the international level to identify the Muslim Brotherhood as a terrorist organization by addressing Interpol, the General Assembly of the United Nations, and all international organizations."

The party demanded the "Egyptian people, parties, human rights organizations, and the government not tolerate the instigators, criminals, and troublemakers in the universities and the streets of Egypt and to expedite the trial of the criminals involved in the killing of Egyptians, police, and army members."

The Constitution Party also weighed in. The party expressed its unequivocal condemnation of such terrorist operations, which they said will only increase the unity of the Egyptian people in the face of those involved in these criminal operations that are criminalized by all heavenly religions, and cannot be justified in any way.

The Constitution Party urged Egyptians to confirm their determination to overcome this difficult transition, move forward in the implementation of the road map declared on July 3, and focus on achieving the real objectives of the Jan. 25 revolution, which called for bread, freedom, social justice and human dignity.

"As shocked by underestimation of the blood of Egyptians and the constant quest of dark forces to overthrow the state, the party declares clearly that the wheel of time will not look back and the partners of June 30 will prove again that they are a solid front in the face of the terrorist groups," the statement added.
