'El Chapo's' Wife Talks Drug Lord's Prison Re-Entry
Following Joaquin "El Chapo" Guzman's re-capture early this year, his wife has finally spoken up about the issue, saying she is "afraid for his life."
According to CNN, Emma Coronel Aispuro, who has been married to the infamous drug lord since 2008, revealed how she feels about her husband's travail to Spanish-language broadcaster Telemundo. Coronel said the Mexican government is putting Guzman on a rough ride in prison to "get even" with the man who, despite being captured twice, led the local authorities in a maze of hide and seek.
Guzman escaped from the Altiplano prison in July 2015 and has been retained in the same prison ever since his capture in January of this year. Referring to her husband's multiple escapes and re-captures, Coronel said, "They want to make him pay for his escape. They say that they are not punishing him...They are with him, watching him in his cell. They don't let him sleep. He has no privacy, not even to go to the restroom."

The Sinaloa cartel boss' life appeared to be a disaster, and not only did he involve some big personalities such as Sean Penn in his escapades but he has also reportedly taken a girl hostage while running away from the authorities. Coronel came to El Chapo's defense, stating that she will "follow him anywhere."
During the interview, Coronel also addressed some of the recent issues that involved her husband, whom she shares to twin daughters with. According to BBC, the former beauty queen said long before Penn came out revealing El Chapo's desire to put his life story in film, the prison escapee had been planning to do so ever since they met.
Coronel also said Guzman didn't shower her or other people with materialistic presents; instead, the great tycoon won people's heart through his friendliness. Despite the letters that Guzman sent to Kate del Castillo, Coronel insisted that she is not jealous.
New and improved security measures have been integrated in the Altiplano prison, to ensure that Guzman won't make another escape while the Mexican government works on extraditing him to the United States.
