Encouraging, Equipping Iraqis
Iraq remains a country with many problems, especially for Christians.
But positive events are happening. Some Christians in Iraq have a desire to prepare for their future and the future of the country.
Open Doors continues to work in Iraq and encourage Christians in various ways: distributing Christian literature, offering vocational courses including computer training, teaching non-Arabic languages and facilitating the set up of Bible-based courses.
Thank you
"Thank you for organizing these kinds of seminars and events. It is really encouraging that you have the courage to hold these events to train and to equip the Iraqi believers who don't have the possibilities to leave the country and who are left behind in cities like Mosul and Baghdad," says an Iraqi believer of Open Doors' programs.
One of Open Doors' centers is organizing spiritual meetings and events to encourage the local Iraqi Christians in their faith. And people are coming. They want to learn. They want to think of the future. Thousands of Iraqis have left the country, but many are willing to stay and want to help rebuild the country.
Spiritual evening
One of Open Doors' centers in Iraq recently organized – in co-operation with a non-government organization (NGO) – a spiritual and cultural evening centering on one of the Iraqi Christian minorities, which was interactive and intellectually challenging for the participants. "We are filled with joy and happiness that such seminars still can be held in Iraq," one of the participants said.
Christian books popular
One of Open Doors' centers recently held a display of spiritual books in an Iraqi church. The center sold many books and the participants were filled with joy and happiness that such an event was happening in Iraq. "We are glad that we still can buy Christian books in Iraq because we need spiritual challenges and we want to grow in our faith, too," said one of the participants.
"Please pray for those Christians who remain in Iraq and continue to be marginalized," says Open Doors USA President/CEO Carl Moeller. "Many of these Christians want to grow in their faith and also improve their skills to help rebuild their country. And Open Doors is helping them grow spiritually and in all other areas of their lives."
