Fantasia Barrino Pregnancy Evokes Fan Response

Following former American Idol winner Fantasia Barrino's announcement at a charity concert Sunday that she is pregnant, fans have hit the web to offer their reactions.

Barrino, 27, told a concert audience in Florida that she was initially apprehensive about sharing the news about her forthcoming child. However, her spirituality inspired her to share the news.

“For a while I walked around figuring out what will they say and what will they think about me. But now I tell you I don't live my life for folk,” the singer shared with her audience on Sunday. “This child that I carry, God has given me this child. And I don't have to hide it from none of y'all."

The possible judgment that Barrino speaks of stems from an incident last summer, when the singer admitted to becoming romantically involved with Antwuan Cook, a married man.

Although she has yet to confirm that Cook, still legally married to another woman, is the child’s father many have speculated about the paternity on twitter.

“Is the father of @TasiasWord's baby the same married man she has been sleeping with or some other man whose home she is going to wreck,” Tweeter Chris Wozney asked on Tuesday.

KAT_LynD, another spectator tweeting about Barrino’s situation, condemned the singer through the social media platform.

"If people don't respect marriage, how can we expect them to respect relationships," KAT_LynD re-tweeted, adding Barrino’s name to the message.

After reports exposed Barrino, the mother of 9-year-old Zion, for her involvement with Cook last summer, the depressed singer overdosed on pain and sleeping medication.

While some reacted to the pregnancy news negatively, many of Barrino’s fans used social media platforms to show their support for the once-troubled singer.

Jai Marie Pogue posted a Facebook message to Barrino’s page after the news surfaced, encouraging the singer to rely on her relationship with God.

“God’s opinion is the only one that counts Fantasia,” Pogue wrote. “We all fall short, repent and do much better. My prayers are with you and you need to take care of YOU so you can take care of your two children!”
