Five Prayers Open-Minded Skeptics Can Pray
If you were wrong about God, would you want to know? That question is absolutely critical. Do you realize there is no logical way you can answer “no” to that question? Think about it for a second. If you were to answer “no,” you would be saying that you don’t want to know about a future in hell that could be avoided by trusting in Jesus and the punishment He took in your place.
As a skeptic looks at the Bible from the outside, the vision is graphic and precise. It is clear to an honest skeptic that if the Bible is correct, his future is horrible without Jesus. There is no logic in someone saying that he wouldn’t want to know even if he was wrong about Jesus. It would be saying, “I don’t want to know about eternal punishment in hell until I get there.” No sane person would say such a thing. So if you were wrong about Jesus and heaven and hell, would you want to know?
It is impossible to argue against absolute truth by stating an absolute. By stating it, you have just refuted it. It is like speaking these words out loud: “No one is capable of speaking.” You prove it wrong the second you say it.

Therefore, it is impossible for you to know for sure that the Bible is wrong. You may think you are right, but what if you are wrong? If in your mind the Bible cannot be absolutely true, then you can’t be either. I have a button which reads, “Don’t believe everything you think.” Pretty good advice wouldn't you say?
Here is the biblical position on the issue. A blind mind cannot grasp the Gospel. St. Paul wrote, “The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ.” (2 Corinthians 4:4) If your mind is blind to God’s good news, you won’t see it until your blindness is healed. Satan blinds man from seeing Jesus as Savior. Your rejection of Christ up to this point is tangible evidence of Satan’s ability to blind minds.
When confronted with this reality, some unbelievers laugh it off. Others get mad. Laughter and anger are the two most common responses when a person is informed of his spiritual blindness. A less common response is actually the best response. That is to be open to the idea that your mind has been duped by a being with greater intelligence than your own. What? It can happen to Adam and Eve, but not you?
Since logically you must leave open the possibility that the Bible is true and Jesus is the only way to heaven, it would definitely make the most sense for you to do what some other skeptics have done over the years. Ask God to show you if He is real and loving and if Jesus really is the Savior of the world.
If you are an open-minded and rational skeptic, here are five prayers designed just for you. By sincerely praying them, you will demonstrate that you have an open mind regarding God and His Word.
(1) “O God, if I am wrong about your Son, heal my blindness.”
(2) “Open my eyes O Lord to see the Truth.”
(3) “If Jesus is the Messiah, help me God to accept Him as my Savior.”
(4) “Bring me from darkness to light in Jesus’ name.”
(5) “Remove my blinders O God in Jesus’ name.”
Do you really want to be right on the “big-ticket” items of life and death? If so, you will need to keep an open mind. If you have been wrong about Jesus, just consider the implications. Think about the difference between walking with God in this life as compared to walking alone. Then think about the difference between spending eternity in paradise as compared to spending eternity in pain. Remember, a blind mind cannot grasp the Gospel.
If you were wrong about God, would you want to know? Prove it, by regularly praying these five prayers with an open mind. To be honest with you, that is your only rational option.
