1. Ron DeSantis: Durham report ‘reminds us of the need to clean house’ at federal law enforcement agencies

Florida’s Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, widely expected to launch a challenge to Trump for the Republican presidential nomination, took to Twitter to defend his potential rival. DeSantis, who served as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives during Trump’s first two years in office, declared Monday that “The Durham report confirmed what we already knew: weaponized federal agencies manufactured a false conspiracy theory about Trump-Russia collusion.”

“It reminds us of the need to clean house at these agencies, as they’ve never been held accountable for this egregious abuse of power,” he added. At a press conference Tuesday, DeSantis elaborated on his views about the Durham report when pressed by a reporter.

“You remember, in 2017, the congressional investigations that started were launched by Republicans in the House and Senate and I was one of maybe five or six members of Congress that said, ‘No, that this is bogus and that this is an abuse of power,’ and I was right.”

DeSantis also condemned the “conspiracy effectively to overturn what the people did in the election in 2016” by working to “kneecap an administration” as well as the “lack of accountability” for those who perpetrated it.

DeSantis reiterated his vow to “clean house from top to bottom at these agencies,” suggesting that he would orchestrate a “change at the FBI” by removing Director Christopher Wray.
