The Global Methodist Church was officially launched in 2022 as a theologically conservative alternative to The United Methodist Church, tracing its origins to the concerns of many that the mainline denomination was embracing theologically liberal standards.

On the frequently asked questions section of its website, the GMC posits the question of whether women will serve as ordained clergy in their new denomination.

“Yes! Women, like men, are called to serve in the Global Methodist Church and are entitled to serve at all levels of the Global Methodist Church,” stated the GMC.

The UMC, from which most GMC congregations formerly affiliated with, also allowed for female pastors, having taken their stance from a decision made by the Methodist Church in May 1956.
