'Fortnite' Adds Battle Royale Features After Passing 7 Million Players

Epic Games' base-building survival game "Fortnite" has reached a new milestone after it surpassed 7 million players. The game also released new content for its new Battle Royale mode amid their ongoing spat with "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds."

In a recent Twitter post, it was revealed that the figure was an overall count of players from the base game as well as separately-downloadable, free-to-play Battle Royale mode. The new mode is steadily gaining popularity and is expected to continue with the addition of Duos and Supply Drop features.

Duos, as the name suggests, gives players the option to drop into the battle alongside a buddy. This opens up a whole new world of possibilities for teamwork giving players a substantial advantage.

As for Supply Drops, these fall from the sky in random intervals and at random locations. They can be the best loot players can find, however, going after them will be difficult because other players are definitely looking to do the same.

The launch of the Battle Royale mode was a strong start for "Fortnite" with 1 million players downloading the game on its first day alone. The base game's performance wasn't too shabby either with 500,000 people buying one of the game's paid tiers back in July.

However, it wasn't all smooth sailing for Epic Games as the addition of the new mode has pitted it against "Player Unknown's Battlegrounds" developer Bluehole. Both developers previously worked together on a project prior to the release of PUBG and have since gone on to develop separate games.

However after Epic Games added a new Battle Royale mode to their game, Bluehole accused their fellow developer of creating a "carbon copy" of PUBG. They even went as far as to threaten legal action against Epic Games. Nothing has happened so far, although it would be interesting what the future holds for both games.

"Fortnite" is currently in early access for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Mac, and Microsoft Windows.
