Independence Day Holiday Car Drivers Expecting Less Traffic on Roads
The AAA has given good news to U.S. car owners as it predicts there will be a lot less traffic over the Fourth of July holiday weekend, given that up to a million less drivers will be on the road this year compared to last July 4th.
Over the Independence Day holiday weekend, the AAA announced that it expects approximately 39 million drivers to travel 50 miles or more on America’s roads, compared to 40 million in 2010.
However, there is a sour twist to the apparently good news; the reason for the decline in traffic is attributed to higher gas prices.

Since July 4th 2010, the average price of gas across the nation has increased by more than 80 cents and now stands at $3.57 per gallon. The news could have been a lot worse as just a month ago the average price per gallon was closer to $4.
Environmentalists will be quick to highlight that news of 1 million less drivers on the road would help reduce carbon emissions. However, that silver lining may also be false hope, as predictions have also said air passengers will increase by nearly 10 percent over the Fourth of July weekend holiday.
