By placing their faces in front of the smartphone’s camera, "Face Unlock" beta software will unlock the Samsung device. No more passcodes, the Galaxy Nexus will “see” it’s user to allow them access.

The latest smartphone release came today at a joint Samsung — Google unveiling, titled "Samsung Mobile Unpacked: Google Episode" in Hong Kong.

The operating system for the latest Android OS is dubbed, "Ice Cream Sandwich" and was also unveiled.

Analysts have been speculating for weeks about new specs for the smartphone, some of which were leaked.

Basic specs for the Galaxy Nexus:

  • 1.2 GHz Dual Core Processor
  • 4.65" 1280X720 HD Super AMOLED display
  • 1GB (RAM) and 16GB/ 32GB Internal memory
  • LTE and HSPA+ networks
  • Bluetooth connectivity
  • USB 2.0, Wi-Fi and NFC
  • 5 MP camera with LED Flash
  • 1080p Full HD
  • Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich OS

There are a host of other creative features for the phone including, updated mobile services for Gmail, instant YouTube and Calendar.

Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich comes with a variety of new specs including a new custom typeface called Roboto.

The smartphone comes with an all new full touch-screen, UI and Android Beam NFC technology that allows users to share information by touching their phones together, and pay for merchandise, including airline tickets, by merely a swipe of the device.
