Galaxy Note 2 vs. Huawei Ascend Mate: Which is the Best Phablet?

The Galaxy Note 2 vs. Huawei Ascend Mate battle pits two devices together which cannot be classified as just smartphones or tablets.

Even though Huawei has not admitted that the Ascend Mate was intended to be a phablet, its 6.1-inch display takes it out of the smartphone world and puts it into an arena where there is only one player, the Galaxy Note 2.

Huawei's Ascend Mate is an impressive device that features a beautiful 720p display, 361-ppi screen, a 1.5GHz quad-core processor, 8-megapixel camera, 4050mAh battery, and Android 4.1, JellyBean.

The device will launch in China at the end of this month and be available in other markets soon. The company also plans to release the Ascend Mate in the U.S.

The Galaxy Note 2 features a slightly smaller 5.5-inch Super AMOLED display with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution. It packs a 1.6 GHz quad-core Cortex-A9 chipset and also comes with Android 4.1, JellyBean pre-installed.

The Galaxy Note 2's display features a lower pixel density at 267 ppi, but that is mostly due to it having a smaller screen. Two of the main advantages it has over the Ascend Mate are that it came out first and features the S Pen stylus, which is a popular selling point for the phablet.

Huawei's device could also end up being too large for customers looking to fit the Ascend Mate in their pocket. Samsung took a risk with by making the Note 2 bigger than its predecessor which seemed to work out, but making it any bigger would push the device into becoming a fully fledged tablet.

Pricing and an official release date still hasn't been announced on the Huawei Ascend Mate and the Galaxy Note 2 is currently available on most major carriers internationally.
