Germany Launches Cycle Superhighway That Actually Works
Some people who like to ride bikes in the United States justify their presence amongst traffic by declaring "Share the Road." Well, it looks like in Germany they get their own road.
Germany has recently opened up a 5 kilometer stretch of road devoted exclusively to bicycle transportation. It's part of a grander project to open 100 kilometers worth of road.
This so-called superhighway for bikes is meant to reduce automobile traffic and carbon emissions, taking advantage of the fact that about 10 percent of commuting in the federal republic is done of a cycling nature.

When completed, the superhighway is expected to go through 10 cities, including the campuses of four universities in the western part of the nation.
