Golden State Warriors News and Rumors: Steve Kerr Close to Returning
The Golden State Warriors are without its star Stephen Curry and head coach Steve Kerr for the moment, but both are expected to return as soon as this weekend. Curry is recuperating from a bruised leg but isn't really going to be out any longer. Kerr, on the other hand, has not coached his team this season due to complications following a back surgery performed in the offseason.
A positive sign that says a lot about the head coach's return is the fact that he traveled with the team for its two-game road trip to Texas, where the Warriors faced the Dallas Mavericks and the Houston Rockets. They lost, 114-91, to the Mavs with Draymond Green and Klay Thompson both misfiring. However, both players bounced back to grab a win in Houston.
Interim coach Luke Walton talked about Kerr's planned return. "It's obviously a possibility. He hasn't said he's going to. To be honest, I don't think he knows yet," he said.

But even with Kerr absent from the sidelines, the Warriors have been amazing, breaking the NBA record for the best start in the season at 24-0. They have two losses against the Bucks and the Mavericks, but the team is just too good right now that it appears like Kerr isn't missed at all. At 30-2, there really is no need to rush and force him into getting back. The system looks pretty much the same and effective with Walton leading.
After the surgery that led to a spinal tap incident, Kerr complained of severe headaches and multiple illnesses, making him decide that he needed time to rest. Although he's not coaching his team, the Warriors' current record will still be placed on his overall coaching record. This means that Walton, serving in an interim capacity, will not be credited for those wins and losses. As a consolation, though, he was named by the league as a "coach of the month" in October and November.
