Google Nexus 7 Tablet Confirmed by ASUS

The long-rumored Google Nexus 7 tablet's existence was recently confirmed by an ASUS representative in a report from Android Authority at Computex.

The report confirms that ASUS and Google have partnered up to manufacture the 7-inch tablet and they plan to officially announce it at the end of June.

Judging from this information, it appears that the rumors of an unveiling for the device taking place at Google I/O will most likely prove to be true.

The representative did not reveal any information on price or specifications, but did state that the tablet was going to be "awesome." The rumored price for the device is between $150 and $200. This will make the tablet a perfect competitor for the Amazon Kindle Fire that now has more than half of the Android market share.

Rumored specifications for the device include a quad-core Tegra 3 processor, Android 4.1, JellyBean and a 7-inch display.

Business Insider also reported last week that the Google Nexus 7 tablet is expected to launch with magazine subscription functionality.

This means customers purchasing the device will be offered magazine subscriptions from some major magazine publishers. Business Insider claims to have received this information from a source with knowledge of the company's plans.

The Wall Street Journal also recently reported that Google plans to open its own online tablet store to sell Google-branded tablets directly to customers.

The company seems to be mimicking the strategy of both Apple and Amazon by creating the perfect ecosystem for consumers purchasing the tablet.

Customers will be able to purchase the device directly from Google while purchasing other software through Google Play. Magazines companies also appear to be entering into agreements with the company in order to increase business and add more marketability to the product.
