Google Nexus Prime Release Date: Over Shadowed by Galaxy S3?

Google’s upcoming Nexus Prime smartphone is arguably the most anticipated upcoming Android powered handset, but the follow up to Samsung’s Galaxy S2 might give it a run for its money.

Samsung is the maker of both the Nexus Prime and Galaxy smartphones, so competing with itself should not hurt the electronics giant in the least.

The Galaxy S2 was deemed the “iPhone killer,” and the smartphone may have even hurt the sales of Apple’s handset, but it stood no chance against the new iPhone 4S which Apple reports has moved over 4 million units in just three days.

The Nexus Prime is expected to enter the playing field and become a valid competitor for the 4S.

However, the follow up to the Galaxy S2 might become Samsung and Google’s true ace in the hole.

In terms of specs, the Galaxy S3 out does the Nexus Prime.

Some information was leaked last month regarding the Galaxy S3’s specifications, but this information is subject to change since Samsung has not officially confirmed anything regarding the device.

4Chan revealed this information in a recent post.

The current planned specs for the Galaxy S3 include a 2.0GHz quad-core CPU, 1.5GB RAM, 32 GB of internal memory with an SD card slot and a 4.65 inch screen.

The device will also feature a new display called the Super AMOLED 3, which will be developed specifically for the new smartphone.

The original Galaxy S featured the Super AMOLED, the Galaxy S2 had the Super AMOLED Plus and the next Galaxy will feature the third version of this screen which has 1280x1024 resolution, giving the new phone a ppi of 352.

This will give the device the highest ppi for a smartphone.

The Galaxy S3 is expected to launch in the first half of 2012.
