Google Releases New Live Wallpaper Displaying System Stats (VIDEO)

Google has released a new live wallpaper that will actually help users determine their device's stats at first glance.

With most device wallpapers functioning as aesthetics for the most part, Google Creative Labs has come up with a live wallpaper that serves a practical function for users by displaying important system stats like battery life, network signal strength, and even notifications.

A majority of Android users avoid wallpaper apps because of their tendency to eat up space, as well as decrease battery life. However, "Meter," the new Android live wallpaper downloadable from the Google Play Store displays a variety of geometrical shapes that measure the amount of battery life left, and how strong the network signal is, as well as alert users when notifications arrive.

Users can move a "Meter" image around on their device screens by turning or tilting their Android handset, and the live wallpaper will go through a series of three visualizations each time a user unlocks their phone or tablet.

The geometrical shapes, while not as graphics-heavy as other live wallpapers currently available, won't be as much of a battery drainer but will instead prove useful for helping users determine how much time they have left before they need to charge their device.

While the battery level indicators, cellular network strength, and notifications are available at a glance on the upper right hand corner of device displays, "Meter" makes it easier on the eyes with larger and cool-colored geometric shapes that catch users' attention right away from their prominent place front and center.

"Meter" is one of Google Creative Labs' experimental wallpapers that is currently available for free download at the Google Play Store.

Google hasn't released any information on how long the live wallpaper will remain free or when they plan to pull the app from the site, so users who feel a geometrical system stats display is worth their while can download "Meter" from the Google Play Store while it remains free and available.
