Gosling Bank Robbery Scene for 'Pines' Was Real
Ryan Gosling is famous for his accurate portrayals of troubled characters, but his latest role in "The Place Beyond the Pines" has set a whole new precedent.
The Derek Cianfrance-directed film follows Gosling as a motorcycle stunt rider who resorts to bank robberies in order to support his infant son.
"I've been thinking about a bank robbery my whole life, and I finally got to do it," Gosling admitted while speaking to The Daily Telegraph.

Then during a more recent interview, the actor revealed just how the reality of his character's situation was captured during one scene. Cianfrance filmed Gosling robbing a real-life bank with real bank staff members and customers looking on, but the method backfired.
"I'm there with the gun and I look down and people are just smiling," explained the 30-year-old Canadian while speaking to MSN. "They were just enjoying the show and I think I spotted someone filming me on their camera phone as I robbed the place."
Meanwhile, "Pines" opened in limited theaters last week and will hit theaters everywhere on April 12. The film has earned praise from critics so far and also stars Bradley Cooper, Eva Mendes, and Rose Byrne.
"I loved making this movie," said Gosling. "Initially, I just thought I got to rob banks on a bike, but actually it goes much, much deeper than that."
Looking ahead, Gosling will also appear in the latest project by director Nicolas Winding Refn "Only God Forgives." The actor will also appear in an untitled film by Terrence Malick in the near future.
However, Gosling has revealed that he plans on taking a break from acting.
"I've lost perspective on what I'm doing, said "The Place Beyond the Pines" star speaking to the Associated Press. "I think it's good for me to take a break and reassess why I'm doing it and how I'm doing it. I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does."
