Fans of the hit series "Grey's Anatomy" will be happy to know that Ellen Pompeo has renewed her contract with the series. After 12 seasons, the Shonda Rhimes series is still going strong, especially with such an active fan base.

The success of the show correlates with Ellen Pompeo's involvement, as she portrays the character Meredith Grey. Fans have fallen in love with the character, as well as the happenings in her life. According to Entertainment Weekly, fans will get to see more of the actress as she recently signed on for the "Grey's Anatomy" Season 13.

According to Deadline, here recent renewal has made her one of the highest-paid actresses on television. There are rumors stating that she earns up to $300,000 per episode of the hit series. However, there is much speculation for what Pompeo will do once "Grey's Anatomy" has finished. In a previous interivew with BuzzFeed, Pompeo explained that she does not see herself pursuing acting after she is done with "Grey's Anatomy."

She said, "I definitely don't have a strong desire to act after Grey's; I definitely feel myself transitioning. I don't find acting terribly empowering. For the place I am in my life... I don't necessarily want to work for other people."
She explained that she is interested in taking behind the scenes work after her acting career. With that, there is a possibility that she will no longer be seen as much in the small screens. However, there is a chance that Pompeo will pursue directing in the near future.

While there has yet to be any news on the conclusion of "Grey's Anatomy," it was confirmed that one of the major characters will be leaving the show. Sarah Ramirez, who plays the role of Dr. Callie Torres, confirmed that she would be departing the show.

Nevertheless, she expressed her happiness on being part of a legendary series. She wrote in a Tweet, "I'm deeply grateful to have spent the last 10 years with my family at Grey's Anatomy & ABC but for now I'm taking some welcome time off. Shonda's been so incredible to work for and we will definitely continue our conversations! 'I send my Love to Ellen, the rest of the cast & crew, and I look forward to always being a part of the Shondaland family!'

However, there has yet to be any news on any of the other characters. It was said that Pompeo is the first of the cast to renew her contract for the upcoming season. "Grey's Anatomy" is expected to return later this year.
