'Guardians of the Galaxy 2' News: James Gunn Confirms No Thanos

While fans are adding more and more speculations to the plot of "Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2," James Gunn has other ideas that may dismay some fans of the major character who helmed the story of the first film.

There have been rumors over the past months about Thanos' return to the sequel, and though the director already said earlier that the character won't appear, some fans insisted that it was just a cover up to keep the plot under wraps.

However, in a recent Q&A session on Facebook, Gunn said, "Thanos will not appear in Vol. 2. No. As I've said before, Thanos isn't in this movie." He added that there are other projects that will involve the character. Unfortunately, it won't be the "Guardians" sequel.

He explained that the storyline for "Guardians 2" isn't relying too much on the Infinity Stones that became the foundation of the first movie. Fans know that it was Thanos who caused Ronan the Accuser to search for the Infinity Stone at all costs, thus starting his battle with Star-Lord.

This time, production may have decided to lay the Infinity Stone storyline aside and open doors to new amazing journeys for the cast. This could actually mean that earlier speculations about the movie's focus on Star-Lord's heritage could be true.

Aside from the sad news about Thanos, Gunn also said fans won't see any member of the "Avengers" in the upcoming movie. However, he said he would go for Iron Man if he were given the chance to pick which Avenger will appear in the franchise.

Meanwhile, the famous director shared photos of the first day on set, with the logo also finally unveiled. The photo was captioned: "In the words of the great poet David Coverdale, Here I go again. #GotGVol2."

The cast has reportedly arrived on set in Atlanta, including Chris Pratt, Vin Diesel, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, and Dave Batista.

"Guardians of the Galaxy: Vol. 2" will hit the big screens on May 5, 2017.
