'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' News and Updates: Warner Bros. to Make A New HP Trilogy; Will Daniel Radcliffe Return to the HP Universe?
The magic continues for The Boy Who Lived.
With "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child" now part of the series' canon, it comes as no surprise that Warner Bros., the same studio that breathed life into the eight most important movies of anyone's childhood (a.k.a. the "Harry Potter" series), is currently mulling making a trilogy out of the five-hour West End play for 2020.
And just when we thought it couldn't get any more magical than that, New York Daily News reported that the studio is currently approaching none other than Daniel Radcliffe for the lead role! According to the report, Warner Bros. is currently working on getting the movie rights and screenplay, though it may take a little more magic to get Radcliffe on board for the ninth installment of the franchise.

Will he take the role?
Whether or not the actor will don the round-rimmed glasses and the lightning scar is anyone's guess for now. But in a recent interview with Radio Times, Radcliffe himself had said he hasn't ruled out playing the famous Gryffindor in the future. He likened his stance to Harrison Ford and his return to the "Star Wars" universe as Hans Solo, explaining that he's leaving room to backtrack in the future. Mischief not yet managed, perhaps?
Radcliffe played the young wizard for almost a decade, and has since become his pivotal role in Hollywood. But the actor has led a pretty successful post-Potter career with "Now You See Me 2", "Imperium", and "Kill Your Darlings", so he could be forgiven if his mind is no longer set on playing The Boy Who Lived. The same goes for another from the magical trio, Emma Watson, who's since become a United Nations Women Goodwill Ambassador (in true Hermione fashion), and is set to star in the upcoming live-action remake of "Beauty and the Beast".
Another casting issue
If Warner Bros. does decide to make a sequel out of the "Cursed Child" play, then they're soon to run into another casting problem. In case you haven't read the book yet, Severus Snape comes back via Time Turner magic—and any Harry Potter fan worth his salt would immediately recognize why that would be a problem. Alan Rickman is and always will be Severus Snape, and we could imagine how any HP universe would suffer without the actor behind the iconic character.
Still, we're sure the movie will come together nonetheless. So while we wait for 2020, there's "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them", a non-Potter HP universe set in the 1920s starring "The Danish Girl" star Eddie Redmayne to tide us over the four-year wait.
