Heavy D Dead: Hip Hop Rapper Leaves Final Message to Fans - 'Be Inspired!' (VIDEO)

Rapper Heavy D, one of Hip Hop’s most influential artists in the 1990s died Tuesday in his home in Beverly Hills, after earlier leaving a twitter message to fans to “Be inspired!”

Dwight Arrington Myers, better known as Heavy D, was a native of Jamaica who became successful for his catchy rhythmic phrases and producing talent during the still early years of the burgeoning rap music industry.

Known initially as a member of his group Heavy D & The Boyz, Myers would go on to a solo career and to collaborate with artists such as Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, and Teddy Riley.

According to TMZ, law enforcement reported that the rapper and producer had just returned home after shopping when he experienced breathing difficulty as he attempted to ascend a stairway.  Adam Mills, an associate of the rapper, discovered a distressed Myers leaning against a railing in distress.

Mills reportedly cradled the weakened rapper and alerted others to call 911.

The Los Angeles Police Department issued a statement regarding the rappers death:

“Upon arrival, officers discovered a male, 44 years old, conscious, communicative, but having difficulty breathing. Beverly Hills Fire Department paramedics arrived on scene and transported the subject to near-by Cedars Sinai Medical Center. The individual ultimately died at the hospital. The identity of the individual was later confirmed as Dwight Arrington Meyers, also known as ‘Heavy D’.”

One of the artist's last twitter messages to fans was, “Be inspired!” The exact cause of death is still unknown.
