Herman Cain Death Threats: Secret Service Agents Move In to Protect GOP Candidate
Herman Cain has received a number of death threats and the Secret Service has now moved in to provide the Republican presidential candidate special protection.
Congressional leaders approved Cain’s request for extra security Thursday in light of the recent threats, which are being taken seriously. Agents have been assigned to guard Cain with immediate effect.
Herman Cain has had a torrid few weeks following allegations of sexual harassment by women who worked with him during his time as the National Restaurant Association head in the 1990’s.

The allegations have led to a sharp drop in the polls for Cain, and have appeared to have distracted the former pizza company executive; he recently stumbled and hesitated his way through a recorded interview.
Cain becomes the first GOP candidate to be placed under the protection of the federal law enforcement agency. Protection is given to each party's presidential nominee, but can, as in this case, be provided sooner if approved at a candidate’s request.
In 2004, Democrats John Kerry and John Edwards received protection from agents as they competed for the party's nomination.
