Hillary Clinton Motorcade Met With Tomatoes, 'Monica!' Chants in Egypt (VIDEO)

Hillary Clinton's motorcade was met with hostility as the Secretary of State arrived in Egypt. Protestors threw tomatoes and chanted at Clinton as she visited the United States consulate in Alexandria.

"Monica, Monica," protestors yelled, which was a clear reference to husband Bill's extramarital affair. They gathered and followed Clinton's motorcade while chanting "Monica, Monica!" Earlier, they yelled "Leave, Clinton," clearly showing their disdain for the high-ranking official.

Clinton has had a tumultuous relationship with Egyptian officials ever since she voiced her support for ousted president Hosni Mubarak's wife, who was an acquaintance. Many saw Clinton's support as a slap in the face of the Egyptian people, who worked to overthrow the dictator's regime.

This weekend's trip is the first since the election of Islamist President Mohamed Mursi. At the consulate, Clinton reaffirmed her support for the Egyptian people, not just one particular group of people or authorities.

"I want to be clear that the United States is not in the business, in Egypt, of choosing winners and losers, even if we could, which of course we cannot," Clinton explained. "We are prepared to work with you as you chart your course, as you establish your democracy. We want to stand for principles, for values, not for people or for parties."

Clinton also voiced her concern about the freedom of the Egyptian people in light of the chaos surrounding the election and new government.

"I will be honest and say some have legitimate fears about their future. I said to them … no Egyptian, no person anywhere, should be persecuted for their faith, or their lack of faith, for their choices about working and not working," she explained.

"Democracy is not just about reflecting the will of the majority," Clinton added. "It is also about protecting the rights of the minority."
