HTC One X to be Challenged by Sprint's Upcoming Quad-Core LG LS970

It seems that quad-core smartphones will be the talk of the town this year as LG plans to launch the LS970 that will feature a 1.5GHz quad-core CPU in the coming months.

The device is expected to launch on Sprint and will rival AT&T's HTC One X that is currently the only handset on the carrier to possess a quad-core chip.

But the processor is not the only thing that has LG's upcoming handset competing with the One X.

The LS970 will also have a 4.7-inch high-definition display, 4G LTE connectivity, and Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

It is basically a direct competitor for the One X which launched on the carrier earlier this month.

The LS970 is expected to be released during the last quarter of 2012. This could hurt the sales of the device since the quad-core Samsung Galaxy S3 will have a head start on it if it launches in the summer.

So far, no release dates have been confirmed for the Galaxy S3 in the U.S. and until that time the HTC One X will be the lone quad-core device in the country.

The handset launched on AT&T this past weekend and is available at all of the carrier's retail locations.

Customers who pre-ordered it were also able to pick it up or have it mailed to them.

"The HTC One X is touted as one of the best Android handsets on the market right now, and I certainly would not disagree," said 9to5 Google.

AT&T is offering the HTC One X with a new two-year contract for just $199.

The smartphone is also available on Amazon with a $50 discount making it just $149. Unfortunately Amazon's version does not come with an unlocked boot loader that select HTC handsets include.
