Hurricane Dora California Bound
Hurricane Dora, a category four storm, could be seen building off of the Pacific Ocean near Mexico on Thursday, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center.
The fourth storm named during this year’s Pacific hurricane season was moving at 140 miles per hour Thursday, according to the Miami-based hurricane center. Although the storm was not expected to touch land, it was monitored 265 miles south of the Mexican port city of Cabo Corrientes.
The storm caused a major shipping port in Lazaro Cardenas to close on Wednesday and strong waves to beat against the coastline. However, it was the only Pacific port forced to close due to the storm.

Along the path of the Pacific coast where Dora is traveling, sugar and coffee crops are at risk of being immersed in water. The center also warned that the storm could be dangerous as it travels up the southern tip of the Californian peninsula on Thursday evening.
"These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions," a center representative stated.
