Cancer survivor Hal Hart has testified that God miraculously cured his Stage 4 bone cancer and metastatic lung cancer that specialists had claimed was inoperable.

"Some of the doctors believe in God's power, and some of them believe in medicine," he said. "But I believed that God would heal me, and he did."

In late 2008, Hart, then 43 and a self-professed "healthy man," got gravely sick, experiencing fevers as high as 104 degrees. After seeking professional opinion and getting x-rays, Hart found out he had lung cancer and promptly had surgery that removed the upper lobe of his left lung.

For the next couple years, Hart thought his health was back to normal. But his physical pain returned in the beginning of 2011, though for the next year and a half he tried to dismiss any nagging notions that it was cancer.

"My back started hurting, and I said, 'Maybe it's my mattress'," he said.

But by the time that he made it back to the doctor's in 2012, Hart was experiencing identical symptoms to the ones that had plagued in him in 2008 in addition to losing a severe amount of weight.

"Once you have it, you know," Hart said. "That's why it scared the c**p out of me."

After visiting several specialists, Hart's pulmonologist told him that he had cancer everywhere.

"I have never communed with God as much as I did then," Hart said. "The doctor told me, 'Hal, I wish I could have done more. You have cancer all over your body'."

Hart's immediate decision was to gather his family two children and wife together and pray.

"Thank God for my wife," said Hart in a testimony that he gave earlier this year at New Life Assembly of God.

He also rejected chemotherapy, after his mother and wife weren't on board, telling one of his doctors that God was going to heal him.

"She looked at me like I was something from outer space," Hart told New Life Assembly members. "[But] I just had confidence that if God raised Lazarus from the dead after four days without a stink, He healed a man with leprosy...He gave Peter the faith to walk on water...If He's the same yesterday, today and forever and He did it 2,000, 3,000, 4,000, 5,000 years ago, guess what he'll do today?"

In January of this year, Hart did begin taking Tarceva, an alternative to chemotherapy that he had heard would postpone the inevitable.

By March, Hart said that his body no longer felt the same.

"It was like a 180-degree turn. It felt like my stomach was growling," he said. "It felt funny."

In April, when Hart went in for another PET scan the doctors found no cancer, astonishing both himself and his medical professionals.

"The miracle in this whole deal is that he goes off, gets a PET scan that confirms the cancer has recurred and that it had spread, and he goes through this treatment," Jay O'Mara, one of Hart's doctors, told the Town Talk. "He comes back with a PET scan that is completely normal. That is unheard of. He credits the Lord with this, and I think that's rightly so."

Hart's oncologist, Tammy Young, told the Town Talk, that while she certainly believed the Tarceva was effective in curing his cancer, prayer definitely played a role in the outcome.

"He has a lung cancer that has a mutation that is very responsive to Tarceva," Young said. "He began taking Tarceva and took it for a few months and had a very good response from the treatment…"Most patients don't have as spectacular a response as Hal has had. And, absolutely, the power of prayer is an important part of this picture."

Hart, who continues to take Tarceva at the request of his physicians, sees only God as the source of the miracle, and has used his story to bring hope and share his faith.

"I give my pictures (scans) out every day to somebody," Hart said. "It's the X-ray that shows I am healed. I thank God for it every day. I wake up and do my prayers in the morning. My life has got to be up to par because God allowed me to get through this."
