Ice Cream Sandwich Now Available for Sprint's Nexus S 4G

Sprint has finally released an Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich upgrade for the Nexus S 4G smartphone.

"Nexus S 4G owners, we are pleased to announce that Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich is now available," tweeted Sprint on Thursday.

The update, codenamed IMM76D allows the device operating system to upgrade to Google's latest software.

Nexus S owners can now enjoy the new People application that replaced contacts, which provides users with improved integration with Gmail, Email, Google+ and other apps. They can also multitask easier and switch between recently used applications by tapping and holding the Home key.

Ice Cream Sandwich also lets users create folders on their home screens by dragging and dropping one app onto another and adds a new lock screen action that allows users to jump into the camera or pull down notifications to check messages without unlocking the device.

Other features new to the Android 4.0 system include a left and right swipe to dismiss individual notifications, close apps from the recent apps list, and close browser tabs along with new controls to monitor and manage the amount of data being used on the a smartphone.

Ice Cream Sandwich also brings with it some new upgrades to the camera system giving users the ability to create panoramic photos, continuous focus, zero shutter lag exposure, stabilized image zoom and decreased shot-to-shot speed.

And for NFC (near-field-communications) devices, Android Beam is also a great feature on ICS since it allows users to transfer apps, contacts, music and video simply by touching two smartphones together.

The Google Nexus S is a 4G device on Sprint that launched last year. Specifications on the smartphone include a 1GHz processor, a 4-inch Super AMOLED display, a 5-megapixel camera, NFC, Wi-Fi and functions off of Sprints WiMAX network.
