Indianapolis Colts Roster News and Rumors: In Dire Need of QBs, Team Adds Josh Freeman, Ryan Lindley
The Indianapolis Colts could never have anticipated the need to rely on marginal and little known quarterbacks. But because of an unusual series of events where the team saw their regular guys go down one after another, there are no longer a lot of choices.
The team on Tuesday announced the signing of former first round draft pick Josh Freeman and Ryan Lindley, two journeymen who are looking to grab a chance to prove themselves in a very unlikely team.
The signing of both Freeman and Lindley is brought by the team's desperate need of a man in the position. Starting QB Andrew Luck is not expected to be available this season, while substitute Matt Hasselbeck is still uncertain to play this week. The guy they thought would carry the quarterbacking responsibility, Charlie Whitehurst, was recently placed on injured reserve. So it leaves no one else in the roster except for Stephen Morris, who is relatively untested.

In spite of all the misfortunes in the Colts lineup, the team surprisingly has a chance to get to the playoffs, though it's thin as paper. The same thing goes for Freeman, who never thought he would have another crack at making it in the NFL after a disastrous stint in Tampa Bay, Miami, and Minnesota.
There are two objectives in signing both Freeman and Lindley. First, the Colts need them, they can't possibly think of winning Sunday's regular season finale without the help of the two. They also can't go deep into the postseason without them, provided they make it. Second, the Colts give them perhaps the last chance to prove their worth in the league.
Having two new additions means that Indianapolis now has five quarterbacks in the roster, something that's unique to the team that has been satisfied with having at most two in its roster.
