iOS 5 Release Date: Tests Prove New System is Faster

iOS 5 has finally been released and according to recent tests, the new system has shown many speed improvements over its predecessor.

iOS 5 proved to be faster than iOS 4 in almost every category, according to the tests that were collected from GeekBench, Gague, BenchTest and Sunspider.

They were compiled into a chart by GigaOM, and the new iOS 5 was compared to many previous versions of iOS 4 including 4.2.1, 4.3 and 4.3.5.

GeekBench tested the system in two categories including memory performance and stdlib allocate.

In overall performance, iOS 5 receive the highest rating with a 378 while iOS 4.2.1 scored a 374 tying with iOS 4.3. iOS 4.3 scored the lowest with 361.

In memory performance, iOS 5 received a rating of 593 while iOS 4.3.5 scored a 578. 4.3 was the lowest with a 548 and 4.2.1 was rated at 569.

Gague tested Quartz 5000, Pi 25000 and Prime 1000.

In each of those categories iOS 5 received the lowest rating in seconds, which according to the chart, is better for the system making it superior to its predecessors.

In BenchTest, the OS was tested in drawing into view and file to filesystem along with overall performance.

iOS 5 received the highest rating overall in BenchTest with a 2.928 beating out iOS 4.3 with 1.984 and iOS 4.3.5 with 2.694.

In drawing into view, iOS 5 performed at a lower rate in seconds than all of its predecessors and did the same with file to filesystem.

Based on these tests, iOS 5 has shown quite an improvement.

When iOS 4 was released, it did not surpass iOS 3 to the same extent as 5.

iOS 4 needed to be updated frequently throughout the years in order to improve speed.

These results were gathered by using iOS 5 on an iPhone 4.
