iOS 6.1.1 Update Released for iPhone 4S

The iOS 6.1.1 software update was released for the iPhone 4S this week.

The upgrade was released in the middle of last week and corrects an issue that could potentially impact cellular performance and reliability for the iPhone 4S. The problem has to do with the 3G connectivity. Carriers had warned their customers about these issues before they download the iOS 6.1 update.

The iOS 6.1.1 update has a build number of 10B145. It is also 23MB in size.

The iOS 6.1.1 was first seeded to Apple developers last week.

The software update beta came just two days after a major jailbreak was released for iOS 6.1. The beta's build number is 10B311. It is compatible with many Apple devices including the 4th generation iPad, iPad Mini, 3rd generation iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th generation iPod Touch, and the 5th generation iPod Touch.

The software build makes some major improvements for the Maps application for Japanese customers. These improvements include better pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation, optimized directions to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads, the ability to notify about upcoming toll roads, added labels for junctions, interchanges, on-ramps, off ramps, and intersections, added indicators for transit station buildings, subway lines, and traffic lights, updated the freeway color to green, and updated icons for some location categories such as fire stations and hospitals.

Apple released iOS 6.1 to users of the software last month.

"iOS 6 is the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history," said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing. "iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads."
