iOS 6.1.3 Released to Developers This Week

The second beta for iOS 6.1.3 was released to developers this week.

The first beta was known as iOS 6.1.1 beta 1, but the new version was renamed iOS 6.1.3 because of the recent public releases of iOS bug fix updates. This update brings some enhancements to the Maps application in Japan and also fixes a Lock Screen bug. The update might also be able to deter some of the recently released jailbreaks, but that has not been confirmed yet.

It is currently available for developers using the iPhone, iPad, and iPod Touch.

The iOS 6.1.1 software update was released earlier this month and corrected an issue that could potentially impact cellular performance and reliability for the iPhone 4S. The problem has to do with the 3G connectivity. Carriers had warned their customers about these issues before they download the iOS 6.1 update.

The iOS 6.1.1 update has a build number of 10B145. It is also 23MB in size.

This software update beta came just two days after a major jailbreak was released for iOS 6.1. The beta's build number is 10B311. It is compatible with many Apple devices including the 4th generation iPad, iPad Mini, 3rd generation iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 5, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, 4th generation iPod Touch, and the 5th generation iPod Touch.

The software build makes some major improvements for the Maps application for Japanese customers. These improvements include better pronunciation of roads during turn-by-turn navigation, optimized directions to more strongly prefer highways over narrower roads, the ability to notify about upcoming toll roads, added labels for junctions, interchanges, on-ramps, off ramps, and intersections, added indicators for transit station buildings, subway lines, and traffic lights, updated the freeway color to green, and updated icons for some location categories such as fire stations and hospitals.
