iOS 6.1 Untethered Jailbreak for iPhone 5 Launches Today

The iOS 6.1 untethered jailbreak for the iPhone 5 is expected to launch sometime today.

Evad3rs, a group that specializes in creating jailbreaks, announced that they were going to release the first ever untethered jailbreak for iOS 6, 6.1 on the iPhone 5 last week. This jailbreak, named EvasiOn, was originally expected to launch yesterday, but was pushed back to today since it took a little longer to prepare.

Evasi0n will have a very clean and simple layout, and this could end up being the easiest jailbreak to use on the iPhone since JailBreakMe.

Evasi0n functions as an iOS 6.1 jailbreak and supports the iPhone 5, 4S, 4, 3GS, fourth and fifth generation iPod Touch models, iPad Mini, and third and fourth generation iPads.

iOS 6.1 finally launched last month as Apple has began rolling out the software to owners of the company's devices.

The software update brings a few new features to the operating system including LTE support for more carriers, the ability to purchase movie tickets through Fandango by using Siri, and a new button to reset the Advertising Identifier.

"iOS 6 is the world's most advanced mobile operating system, and with nearly 300 million iPhone, iPad and iPod touch devices on iOS 6 in just five months, it may be the most popular new version of an OS in history," said Philip Schiller, Apples senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing. "iOS 6.1 brings LTE support to more markets around the world, so even more users can enjoy ultrafast Safari browsing, FaceTime video calls, iCloud services, and iTunes and App Store downloads."

The newly supported LTE carriers in the U.S. include Alaska Communications, Alaska GCI, Bluegrass Cellular, C Spire, Cellcom, and Pioneer Cellular. These new LTE carriers are only supported by the 4th generation iPad, iPad Mini, and the iPhone 5. This makes sense as those Apple devices are the only ones that support LTE connectivity.
