iPhone 4S Release Date: Apple Sells 4M Units in 3 Days

Apple announced that the company sold four million units of the iPhone 4S in just three days.

The new smartphone launched on Oct. 14 and managed to more than double the sales of its predecessor, the iPhone 4 which was released in 2010.

Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, Phil Schiller was quoted in a recent statement boasting of the company’s success with the new device.

“iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than 4 million sold in its first weekend- the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” he said.

Along with 4S units flying off shelves, Apple also had an enormous response to its new iOS 5 software which was downloaded by 25 million customers since its release on Oct. 12.

“iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever,” said Schiller.

iCloud has also been a great success since Apple had more than 20 million customers sign up for the service.

The iPhone 4 moved 1.7 million units on its launch weekend in 2010.

The device was pre-ordered by 600,000 in the first 24 hours, according to Apple.

Just AT&T’s pre-orders alone for the iPhone 4S made up for 1/3 of total reservations made for the iPhone 4, since the carrier reported 200,000 units reserved in the first 12 hours.

Apple also confirmed that it has sold 1 million pre-orders of the iPhone 4S in 24 hours.

The hike in iPhone sales is probably due to the fact that the iPhone 4S is the first Apple smartphone to launch on three major networks including AT&T, Sprint and Verizion.

All previous iPhones launched on AT&T only.
