iPhone 5 Release Date: One in Ten Americans Own an iPhone
One in every 10 citizens of the United States owns an iPhone, according to a report released from comScore, a research firm, today.
“Of the 234 million Americans age 13 and older, 10.2 percent owned an iPhone during the third quarter, earning Apple the #4 ranking among the nation’s top device manufacturers,” said 9to5Mac technology website while referring to the new data.
This marks the first time the iPhone made it past the 10 percent milestone in comScore metrics. Apple saw a 1.3 percent point growth in the June to September quarter.

This makes the feat that much more impressive because the data does not factor in the new iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S launched in mid-October and saw the highest sales numbers for an iPhone moving 4 million units in just four days.
According to the data, every smartphone manufacturer lost market share during this past quarter with Samsung down to 25.3 percent share of U.S. mobile subscribers.
LG had the second highest amount of market share with 20.6 percent and Motorola came in third with 13.8 percent share. Apple was No. 4 and RIM came in fifth with 7.1 percent.
Apple grew by 0.8 percent points in the September quarter that allows them to account for 27.4 percent of the smartphone market share in the country.
Google led the pack for platform share with 44.8 percent, up 4.6 percent points from the June quarter. RIM came in at the third position with 18.9 percent followed by Microsoft having 5.6 percent and Symbian at 1.8 percent.
In total, 87.4 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones during the September quarter.
This makes the U.S. the world’s most important market for smartphones.
