iPhone 6C Rumors: Budget Friendly Phone Expected to Launch in Q2 2016

Reports have emerged Apple is set to unveil its affordable iPhone 6c during the second quarter of next year.

Taiwanese publication DigiTimes has released a report saying Apple's next-generation iPhone, the bugget 6c, will be launched in the second quarter of 2016.

The Cuppertino, California tech company is currently in the middle of getting ready to reveal its iPhone 6s and 6s Plus, which are both scheduled to hit the market next month, and already rumors of the iPhone 5c's successor has hit the media.

The news was based on quotes from semiconductor industry insiders, and may have come from the Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) itself, which is said to be providing the iPhone 6c with 16nm FinFET chips. Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd. is also reported to be providing the 14nm node technology for the 6c. Both types of FinFET processors are geared to enable specs upgrade, deliver greater power efficiency, lower power consumption, and increase the performance of the 6c.

A previous report also claimed the new budget smartphone, a reboot of Apple's "budget" iPhone line, will feature an all-metal form, instead of the plastic body of 2013's iPhone 5c.

The 6c is expected to have the A9 chip under the hood, also manufactured by Samsung and TSMC, as well as a 4-inch QHD display with 1080p resolution, Force Touch technology pioneered on the Apple Watch, 2GB of RAM, and a 12MP main camera.

The iPhone 6c's other purported specifications have yet to be released, and with the rumored second quarter unveiling for next year, it may appear that Apple may be planning to host a special event to present the iPhone 6c, instead of its traditional autumn launch for new products.
