iPhone 7 Plus Rumors: 256 GB Storage Option Highly Unlikely

Chinese website My Drivers recently leaked out information about a 265 GB storage option for the upcoming Apple iPhone 7, but this piece of news may be implausible.

My Drivers earlier posted an article detailing the supposed specifications of the iPhone 6c, and now it has leaked information saying the iPhone 7 will come with a 265 GB storage option in addition to the "normal ones." The said article, however, did not elaborate more on that statement, according to Apple Insider.

The iPhone 7 will reportedly have a 4.7-inch and the iPhone 7 Plus will sport a 5.5-inch screen. The Chinese website also said the upcoming flagship will have significant upgrades, especially in terms of storage and battery life, Techno Buffalo reports.

Based on the rumor posted by My Drivers, the 265 GB memory will only be available for the iPhone 7 Plus, but the standard iPhone 7 itself will not have it. However, there are some critics saying this is quite unlikely.

When Apple launched the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus in 2014, the two models had identical specs, save for the Plus' Optical Image Stabilization feature. The standard model could not accommodate this feature due to its limited size, the report explains.

Although the iPhone 6 Plus' battery and screen are larger and better than the one in the standard unit, Apple has never indicated that the Plus version is the more superior device between the two. Instead, the company focused on the size as the only difference between the two, the report details.

Another factor that calls into question the rumored 265 GB storage option for the iPhone 7 Plus is My Driver's history of tainted credibility. Three years ago, the website also cited anonymous sources who apparently released inaccurate dimensions for the then-unreleased iPad Mini, the report adds.

Apple's latest iPhones still have the 16 GB storage option to cater to customers who cannot afford the ones with higher memory. The company's executives also said the iCloud service can sufficiently compensate for the limited storage. The limited memory also allows Apple to pour incorporate better major features into the iPhone, such as an improved camera.

Aside from the storage options, other rumored specs and features of the iPhone 7 include a 3,100 mAh battery, iOS 10, an A10 processor, waterproof casing, USB 3 Lightning support, and additional RAM.
