Iran Claims Spy Captured in TV Broadcast

Iranian television has claimed Sunday that it had captured an American spy that was attempting to infiltrate Iranian secret intelligence.

A report made on Iranian television claimed a man, identified as Amir Mirzaei Hekmati, was an Iranian American sent by the Central Intelligence Agency (C.I.A.) to win the trust of authorities in Iran.

Although no claims in the video could be confirmed, it said the man was an Arizona resident who had joined military forces in 2001 where he was trained in language and espionage.

The video had shown Hekmati seated while he said, "They told me, 'You will become a source of military and intelligence information for the Iranians for three weeks and we will give you money for this and then you will return’.”

It also showed pictures in the background that appeared to be Hekmati at different U.S military bases.

The video confession said, "Their (U.S. intelligence) plan was to initially burn some valuable information, to give it free so that (Iran's) Intelligence Ministry would see the good things and then would contact me.”

The confession was broadcast on many different Iranian stations. Washington and the CIA have not yet made comment.

Iran has previously aired videos of allegedly captured spies who posed a threat to national security, many of which have been false.

Publication RT has attributed the video to a cyber war between Iran and the U.S. and suggested that Iranian Intelligence has hacked into an American spy drone and CIA headquarters.
