An Islamic State militant in the group's largest Iraqi stronghold of Mosul beheaded his own father for allegedly insulting the barbaric terrorist group's leader.

According to BAS News, a local source in Mosul told the Arabic language Iraqi news outlet Al-Sumaria that an IS jihadi beheaded his own father because he allegedly called the group's so-called caliph, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a "dog" and criticized the militant group's violent Muslim ideology.

The source also explained that the beheading occurred last Wednesday in front of a public audience in Mosul's city center.

This is not the first time that an IS militant has been responsible for the execution of his own family members and likely won't be the last.

In August, Iraqi News reported that another IS militant in the Mosul area beheaded his own father because he allowed his family to flee the area, which has been held under the control of IS since the summer of 2014.

It wasn't enough to just kill his father, the source who spoke to Iraqi News explained that the militant also filmed the execution.

"One ISIS member on Thursday evening beheaded his father at Ghazlani region in western Nineveh," the source said. "The attack was made as the deceased approved the exodus of his family from Agrarian Reform neighborhood to Makhmour district in south of Mosul."

"The killer collected a number of his close associates and members of the organization and filmed the entire execution," the source added.

In January, a 20-year-old IS militant in the group's Syrian stronghold of Raqqa executed his own mother after he accused her of "apostasy."

According to the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, the mother was executed in front of the post office where she worked, as hundreds of residents watched.

The watchdog group reports that the mother's crime was simply "inciting her son to leave the Islamic State." The source added that the mother also told her son that "the [United States-led] coalition will kill all members of the organization."

The media activist group, Raqqa is Being Slaughtered Silently, also reported on the parricide. The group, which reports on human rights abuses from inside the caliphate, reported that the mother, identified as Leena Al-Qasem, was 45 years old, while the son was identified as Ali Saqr.

The news of the father being beheaded in Mosul by his own son comes as Iraqi forces, aided by 5,000 American soldiers, has been gearing up to reclaim Iraq's second largest city. As it has been reported for the last few weeks that the Mosul offensive will commence soon, it officially began on Monday morning.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi made a televised address on Monday to announce that Iraqi forces have begun fighting IS on the outskirts of Mosul.

"We have been battling ISIS for more than two years. We started fighting ISIS in the outskirts of Baghdad, and thank God we are now fighting them in the outskirts of Mosul. And God willing, the decisive battle will be soon," Abadi said, according to The Guardian. "These forces that are liberating you today, they have one goal in Mosul, which is to get rid of Daesh and to secure your dignity. They are there for your sake."

The possibility of a Mosul offensive has had IS leaders on edge for months, as they have brutally punished Mosul residents simply for talking about the advances of the Iraqi forces.
