Jennifer Lawrence Falls Accepting 'Best Actress' Award (VIDEO)

Jennifer Lawrence had a night to remember, including one event she probably wishes she could forget. While walking to the stage to accept the award for "Best Actress," Lawrence tripped and fell on the stairs. She later joked about the incident and expressed her gratitude for the award.

"You guys are just standing up because you feel bad that I fell down," Lawrence said after making it to the stage and accepting her award. "But thank you. This is nuts," the 22-year-old actress added.

Lawrence took home the coveted prize for her portrayal of a young woman who becomes a sex addict after her husband dies; she then ends up in a romance with a bipolar man played by Bradley Cooper. Throughout filming "Silver Linings Playbook," rumors swirled that the two were an actual couple, but both have adamantly denied the accusations.

She is the second-youngest winner of the "Best Actress" award; Marlee Matlin won at age 21 for her performance in "Children of a Lesser God." That fact didn't stop Lawrence from fully celebrating her win.

"Thank you to the Academy and thank you to the women this year. You were so magnificent and so inspiring and not just those of you in my category. And it's been so amazing getting to know you and you've been so nice and you've made this experience unforgettable," Lawrence said.

"And thank you to the best producing team: Bruce, Donna, Jon and to my team at CAA and IDPR. And Bradley and our entire cast: Chris, Jacki, Bob and our crew. My family. Happy birthday, Emmanuelle. Thank you so much, Thanks," Lawrence concluded.

Backstage, Lawrence had the perfect explanation for her trip on the way to the stage.

"What do you mean what happened? Look at this dress!" Lawrence exclaimed.

"A bad word … It starts with F," she said when asked what went through her mind as she fell. "The process today was so stressful. I felt like Steve Martin in 'Father of the Bride.'"
