Jeremy, Adrienne Camp share 9 tips for thriving in God-glorifying marriage

Find fulfillment in Christ alone

“One of the most powerful things Adrienne ever said to me was, ‘I love you, you’re the husband God has given me. I’m committed to you, but I don’t need you as much as you think I do,’” Jeremy recalled. “Her point wasn’t saying, ‘I don’t need you at all,’ she was saying, ‘Take the pressure off of yourself, because I find my fulfillment in Jesus.’”

“If we look exclusively to each other to fulfill our needs, we’ll be disappointed,” he continued. “Jesus completes us as we walk alongside each other. While marriage is a good and beautiful thing, Christ alone is the complete fulfillment of our needs. When you realize that, you will love that person better and fulfill the needs you are able to through the power of the Holy Spirit.”

Seek wise counsel amid conflict

“Don’t be afraid to seek counsel,” Jeremy advised. “A lot of people are afraid to get help, but someone on the outside can see things from a different point of view. They are able to say, for example, ‘Your perspective isn’t correct; you’re seeing this situation through a lens of bitterness.’ It doesn’t have to be a licensed counselor, but find someone whose marriage you respect and trust. Share with them what’s going on. Don’t be an island.”

“There’s no shame in going to see a marriage counselor or learning tools to figure out communication,” Adrienne added. “We all need help. Surround yourself with people who will speak life-giving truth into your marriage. You are not alone in your struggles.”
