Jerry Sandusky Child Sex Abuse Scandal: Penn State Coach Mike McQueary Gets Death Threats

Penn State Athletics announced Thursday night that, due to death threats made against Assistant Coach Mike McQueary, that the assistant coach will not be fulfilling his duties at Saturday's game featuring the Nittany Lions against Nebraska at Beaver Stadium.

The press release from Penn State reads: "Due to multiple threats made against Assistant Coach Mike McQueary, the University has decided it would be in the best interest of all for Assistant Coach McQueary not to be in attendance at Saturday's Nebraska game."

McQueary, as much of Penn State's athletic department, has been in the spot light since Jerry Sandusky was arrested Nov. 5 and charged with 40 counts related to the sexual abuse of eight boys over a 15-year period.

Longtime coach Joe Paterno was fired Wednesday night for failing to report the alleged sexual abuse to authorities.

McQueary testified to a grand jury that he walked in on Sandusky, Penn State's defensive coordinator, in the showers allegedly sodomizing a 10-year-old boy in 2002. McQueary informed Paterno about what he had witnessed.

According to the grand jury indictment, Sandusky was "obsessed' and "clingy" with the alleged sex abuse victims.

There have been many calls for Penn State to get rid of McQueary due to his involvement in the Sandusky child sex abuse controversy.

Jemele Hill, an ESPN columnist and television analyst, tweeted Thursday, "Mike McQueary shouldn't coach another game at Penn State, either. The trustees have to clean house."

Jimmy Traina, a Sports Illsutrated writer, wrote on Twitter, "It's amazing that Penn State CONTINUES to handle this as poorly as possible. Fire Paterno, keep Mike McQueary around. That makes sense."
