'Jurassic World' Sequel News: Bryce Dallas Howard Eager to Begin Filming; Jeff Goldblum Open to Returning to Franchise

"Jurassic World" star Bryce Dallas Howard is so excited about the blockbuster hit's sequel that she reportedly regularly texts "Jurassic World" director Colin Trevorrow about the sequel's progress.

"I text him every day, pretty much, with messages like, 'OK, what are you doing now? What are you writing now?'" she told The Hollywood Reporter with a laugh.

The as-yet-untitled sequel, which will be helmed by "The Impossible" director J.A. Bayona, is slated for a 2018 release and will begin filming in early 2017.

As Howard joked, that date is simply too far away for her liking. "I cannot believe it's a year away, but everyone is like, 'Oh that's soon,' and I'm like, 'No! That's too long!'" the actress told THR. "I'm very excited to do it again and get the family back together again."

Earlier this month, it was announced that Bayona had been chosen to direct the "Jurassic World" sequel, with Trevorrow co-writing the script with his frequent collaborator Derek Connolly.

Howard is expected to return, along with "Jurassic World" co-star Chris Pratt.

Meanwhile, "Jurassic Park" star Jeff Goldblum has expressed interest in reprising his role as Dr. Ian Malcolm in the "Jurassic World" sequel. The actor has appeared in two of the films in the "Jurassic Park" franchise. He first appeared in the Steven Spielberg-helmed "Jurassic Park" (1993) before returning in "The Lost World: Jurassic Park" (1997).

This summer, the "Independence Day" actor revisits his decades-old role as scientist/computer expert David Levinson in "Independence Day: Resurgence," and it sounds like he is more than willing to reprise his "Jurassic Park" character as well.

"I'm nothing if not open – I'm like an open-faced sandwich," Goldblum told Metro during the CinemaCon in Las Vegas earlier this month.

"My door is not always open – I took the door off," the actor teased. "I removed the hinges from the door. I'm too open. I'm like a chicken piccata."

The "Jurassic World" sequel hits theaters June 22, 2018.
