Tesla co-founder and CEO Elon Musk issued a Saturday statement in response to Peanut’s death, declaring that “Government overreach kidnapped an orphan squirreland executed him.” 

Musk, who announced his support for Trump earlier this year, wrote in a follow-up statement on Sunday that it is “NOT ok for the government to barge into your home and kill your pets!”

“What has become of the Land of the Free?” he asked. 

In response to a question about one of his Saturday posts about the squirrel, in which an X user asked about the type of people who work for agencies like the DEC, the billionaire entrepreneur answered, “The government is a mindless and heartless killing machine.”

“President Donald Trump will save the squirrels,” Musk wrote in a subsequent X post on Saturday about the deceased pet, adding: “RIP P'Nut.”
