Kanye West Booed at Bonnaroo After Branding Himself 'No. 1 Rock Star' in Bizarre Rant (VIDEO)

Kanye West was booed at the Bonnaroo Arts and Music Festival in Manchester, Tenn., on Friday.

The "Yeezus" rapper, 37, took to the stage to close out the event before a crowd of 90,000 and at one point he characteristically went on a rant about his own greatness which was met with a chorus of boos. West began complaining about the media and even compared himself to the likes of Jimi Hendrix and John Lennon among other legends during the outro of "Heartless."

"I am the number one m------------ rock star on the planet!" West yelled into the mic.

"Where the press at?" he said. "This is real rock 'n' roll if you ever grew up on real music. The reason why you write that s--- about music. I'm from the south side of Chicago. I dreamed of R Kelly giving me a deal."

At one point irritated crowd member reportedly began chanting "f--- Kanye" and some even took the opportunity to leave early.

The controversy comes six years after the outspoken rapper was infamously booed after arriving late at Bonnaroo back in 2008.

Irate twitter users openly blasted West on the social networking site for what many deemed to be over-the-top behavior.

"Kanye west seriously compared himself to Shakespeare, Lennon, Hendrix, HENRY FORD?, and also God himself... #F---Kanye," one twitter user wrote.

"Kanye is miles behind Hendrix or Lennon. Like, Is it an act? Is he serious? Has he listened to a Beatles or Hendrix album? They're geniuses," another wrote.

"Kanye, it's not the best to start out a concert by announcing to the crowd full of hippies that you are better than Hendrix and The Beatles," one advised.

Earlier this month West raised eyebrows at the X Games in Austin, Texas when he slightly tweaked some hits songs to avoid saying Jay Z's name.

In the 2012 track "Cold" West says "lucky I ain't had Jay drop him from the team," but on June 7, the rapper reportedly skipped Jay Z's name, which raised eyebrows.

West also avoided saying Jay Z's name in a more recent track "Blood On The Leaves," according to YouTube video footage.

On May 24, the Grammy award-winning artist married reality TV star Kim Kardashian, 33, in a private wedding in Italy and while Jay Z was reportedly invited, he did not attend. The hip-hop mogul and his wife Beyonce instead opted to spend time in the Hamptons with their daughter Blue Ivy.
