Kate Middleton Made Godmother by Friend

Duchess Kate Middleton has a new title to her name: godmother. The royal mother was given the special title by a friend after being chosen as one of four godparents to her friend's baby boy.

"I think my usual congregation were surprised at who was joining us," Reverend Ken Dunstan told The Mirror. "My main concern was that I got the tone right for the family and for the baptism. I don't normally pay a huge amount of attention to godparents as long as the godparents are there and willing to make the appropriate promises. She was there as a godparent, not as a princess."

The Duchess was not the only royal in attendance – she was accompanied by husband Prince William and her own seven-month-old son, Prince George. George was one of several babies present at the baptism, which took place at St. Barnabas Church in Mayland, Chelmsford.

"There were several babies present and all were very well-behaved," Reverend Dunstan said.

"There was a little squeak early on from one of them but after that it was all fine. He behaved himself," Dustan told People of the little prince.

The Duchess took the same vow as all other godparents, to do her best to raise the child in a Christian environment, to look after his welfare and support the family. Kate and William made several friends during their time at St. Andrews University. One of those friends, Oliver Baker, was chosen to be Prince George's godfather.

It was an intimate ceremony that the royal family attended together, which was one of their first outings together since Kate returned from a Middleton family vacation to Mustique last month. Since then, Kate and William have been busy making individual appearances for their respective charities and events. Kate actually spent Valentine's Day at a charity event for the Art Room, with many children in attendance. William, meanwhile, spent the day trying to stave off a flood with his brother, Prince Harry.
