Kate Middleton Pregnant, Hospitalized for Sickness

Kate Middleton and her husband Prince William are expecting their first child, Buckingham Palace has confirmed on Monday.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby," a statement on the couple's website read.

In another surprising twist, Middleton has been admitted to a Central London hospital for acute morning sickness where she is expected to be for several days, according to CNN.

Acute morning sickness, also known as hyperemesis gravidarum, includes excessive vomiting during pregnancy. The Duchess of Cambridge is likely suffering from morning sickness that has begun early in her pregnancy, but that is expected to subside halfway through her term.

"The Duchess was admitted this afternoon to Kind Edward VII Hospital in Central London with Hyperemesis Gravidarum," a statement from the Palace read. "As the pregnancy is in its very early stages, Her Royal Highness is expected to stay in hospital for several days and will require a period of rest thereafter."

The statement on The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge's website also revealed that the couple and their entire family is "delighted with the news."

"The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news," read the statement.

The announcement comes after the couple hinted at "wonderful, happy" news last month.

"They're planning to make an announcement in December," said Jessica Hay while speaking to New Idea magazine.

Both 30, the royal couple has been the center of pregnancy rumors since their marriage on April 29, 2011.

The news comes as Prince William's service with the Royal Air Force is coming to a close as he begins preparing for his life as a full-time royal. Immediately after his wedding to Kate, the couple was able to make a life of their own away from the glare of the paparazzi and have maintained normalcy through their first year of marriage.

Prince William is second in line to the throne after his father, Prince Charles.

For the first time in history, regardless of whether the Duke and Duchess welcome a baby boy or a baby girl, the child will have the right to inherit the throne. Previously, females were not allowed to ascend to the throne ahead of any men in the family.
